Merry Christmas!

I thought I’d share something I wrote more than a year ago. This is why I love Christmas.

Of all the Christian holidays, I love the story of Jesus’ birth the most. I realize that as a believer, Easter has the most significance, but as far as a story I treasure, it’s the one with a pregnant newlywed looking for a place to have her baby. It’s the one of divine royalty breaking through from heaven in a humble way to bless the least of us. It’s the one of dazzling angels appearing in the sky, of a new star that glimmered like a spotlight on Jesus, of a virgin birth and a crib made from a feeding trough. This is grace, this is a miracle in human form, this is joyful, magical redemption.

God’s message to us at the advent of His son’s birth is peace on earth and goodwill toward men. What a blessing Christmas is to us!

The Father brings peace to our hearts and peace among each other as we accept His child. God’s will toward us is inexplicably good, for our salvation and rescue. I don’t know about you, but that makes me equally joyful and surprised.

This past year, I enjoyed a whole lot of peace as I trusted in God more and more. It’s funny how I didn’t really recognize that I wasn’t trusting Him as much as I used to until His word grabbed my attention.

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.
Psalm 32:8, NLT

I found that I really do believe He guides me. I saw that God’s idea for us as a family was to thrive and share His joy with others. I knew God only had good things in mind for us when He kept my husband’s job secure, kept us all safe from a potential fire (more on that another time!), gave my son confidence in school, and brought more friendliness to our neighborhood. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! I love the peace God gives because of His salvation as well as His design for our lives, and I trust Him.

This Christmas, let your heart be filled with peace because of the gift of God’s son. We have the chance to accept God’s goodwill and bring glory to Him. In turn, we get to live in this peace and bring it to others. How great is that?

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke 2:14, KJV

I hope your heart is filled with peace and goodwill, and I wish you a blessed Christmas!

  1. Merry Christmas — I love knowing that the same God who guided Mary and Joseph is guiding us today. The same God who provided a stable provides for each of us.

  2. Laura, What a beautiful site you have…so calming! Just popping over to say “hi”! And Merry Christmas! And yes, so thankful that He does guide us and give us His peace.

I'd love to know what you think. Thanks for commenting!
