My daughter was struggling to breathe. The last time this happened, it turned out to be bronchitis, and her oxygen count had been in the 80s by the time I got her to the hospital. That night, I didn’t hesitate. I let my husband and son sleep while I threw together a diaper bag, covered her in a blanket, and ran out to the car with her.
We’ve all experienced fear, both the kind that grips our hearts in a panic and the kind that seeps more slowly into our everyday thoughts. It doesn’t help that it’s the time of year when the world is constantly trying to scare us. Everywhere we look, our culture is glorifying fear, danger, and death. It’s not my thing.
It’s not God’s thing either, and He proves that again and again. He gives us a spirit of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7) and of peace (Col. 3:15). Fear motivated me to quickly get Sylvie the care she needed, for what turned out to be croup. But even if fear is appropriate and helpful, it’s an opportunity to rely on our Heavenly Father.
