Before having kids, I didn’t need to make a list of the things I wanted to fit in for each season. Things like viewing the foliage happened on a whim.

We had some great whims.

Well, you parents out there know where I’m going with this. Very few activities happen on a whim with kids. I’ve learned I have to be intentional about fitting in fun before the busy-ness of daily life with little ones eclipses the bigger moments we want to have. The first one on our list proves it!

So here’s how we’re making memories this year. Β This is what we’ve done and what we’re aiming for, though we know hitting them all is probably not very likely.

Completed on Our Fall Bucket List

1. Going to a Fall Festival

It’s nothing short of a miracle that we made it to the fall festival this year! This is my son’s favorite event…ever, and despite repeated attempts to check the date, we nearly missed it. I only found out the night before it was happening. I dropped everything, told my husband (who was on the phone) and called my parents to see if they wanted to come too. One night and one packed diaper bag later, we made it out the door and met my parents at the festival. I’m SO thankful that it all worked out even though it was last minute, because we’re going to remember this one forever.

2. Drinking Hot Chocolate

I’m so glad I took advantage of the few cooler days we’ve had in September and made hot chocolate for the kids (okay, well, maybe I had some too and loved every gulp.)

3. Fall Baking

We’ve already enjoyed Cranberry-Orange scones, Shay’s Apple Butterscotch Pecan bread and the best Pumpkin Spice Cake EVER.Β These were all so good!

4. Playing with Leaves

Kai spontaneously started bringing me a few changing leaves that he found while we were playing outside last week, and it was the sweetest thing ever. Of course, we’re excited to rake and jump in leaves from our beautiful maple tree in the back yard, but that will come later. Good thing I’m patient! πŸ˜‰

5. Picking Fruit

As soon as the pears were even a little bit ready, we’ve been enjoying little snacks whenever we can! They are SO good.

6. At Home PSLs

I’ve been enjoying pumpkin spice coffee and chai, but I live in a small town, so it’s not an official PSL. Still, I’m counting the appearance of pumpkin spice creamers in the store as a wonderful Fall event.

7. Halloween Crafts

We have dipped into making kids’ crafts with these flying glitter bats! I’ve learned to make the crafts when we can, because things like sickness will come and also because October will be over before I know it!

Fall Bucket List (To-Dos)

There are so many wonderful things ahead of us! Hooray for Fall! I’ll have to come back and link these up as I cross them off the list.

First Day of Pheasant Season
This is a little hunting trip that my husband does, but it also means a really nice day at the farm for me and the kids. We always have a great time!

Halloween Costumes
Kai hasn’t decided what he wants to be, and we need to figure something out for Sylvie too.

Trick or Treating
Love doing this in our neighborhood! This year we’ll go to the event at our local drugstore too.

Carve a Pumpkin
Is it Halloween yet?

Jumping in the Leaves
Can’t wait to do this with the kids in our red maple leaves!

Thanksgiving Crafts
Love all the thankful crafts I’m seeing out there!

Coffee Shop PSLs
Because local coffee shops have pumpkin spice, too. πŸ™‚

Homemade Cider
I’d like to have this brewing in my house roughly every single morning.

Pumpkin Breads and Desserts
Because there can never be enough!

Christmas Decor
I start by putting up our tree (with lights only!) on the first day of November. I call it the Thanksgiving Tree.

Here’s last years’ Thanksgiving Tree. Isn’t it a beaut?

Fall Family Pictures
We’ll be doing these in a week, if all goes well.

Paint our Exterior Doors
Hmmm…time will tell if we have the gumption to get this done before it really gets cold!

And, in case you need some fall inspiration, here’s just one of my Fall boards on Pinterest right now!

So, what’s on your bucket list this year? My advice is to aim high, but keep expectations real. πŸ™‚ Happy Fall!
