A Fall Festival
Every year, we go to the local fall festival at a nearby farm and have a wonderful time. This year was no exception!
I told Kai as we were leaving that we would remember this Fall Festival forever. (Click on pictures to enlarge + scroll through the gallery)

New Shoes for the Kids
I was just philosophizing about fall with my husband when I said, “You know, fall is really the season for new shoes.”
He laughed when a few minutes later, he was reading to the kids and saw that Richard Scarry confirmed it. (You can find this wonderful book here.)
We did take part in this seasonal tradition because the summer shoes my kids had were just not going to cut it anymore. There were some interesting moments at the shoe store, especially when my kids thought the layout made for a great race track. But other than that, we had a great time.
This was taken during a calm moment. There was no time for pictures while we were corralling the children.
Sylvie’s shoes have just the right amount of pink, purple, and glitter (and by “the right amount” I mean A LOT), and they are perfect for her
Kai went for Paw Patrol shoes that light up! Needless to say, he’s been running faster lately.
We’ve been allowing the kids to wear their new shoes in the house to help break them in, but mostly because EVERYTHING is more fun with new shoes!
Paolo Nutini understands, and I’m sure you do too.
THREE
Baking
It took me a long time after having Sylvie to make something other than the necessary meals. I still don’t go through a lot of effort in the kitchen these days. But then Sue Donaldson used her trickery on me and threw in a simple recipe for orange cranberry scones in her book called Come to My Table.
I made the scones–twice! Once to just test it out (the kids helped!) and once for a friend who was coming for a visit. Both were successful and have me in the mood to do more baking this season.
FOUR
Pumpkins, Leaves, and EVERYTHING about Fall
This week I found myself buying pumpkins, turning an orange into a candle, frolicking in the leaves with the kids (there aren’t very many yet, but still), drinking chai, and accidentally telling my husband October starts on Sunday…he corrected me, don’t worry. I’m getting ahead of myself because this is my favorite time of year, and I’m READY for it.
This last one is from yesterday morning, after the kids and I got to play in the rain. That’s huge for us, because we’re experiencing a drought here that’s been bad news for everyone (especially farmers). By the way, I think my girl looks like a future fashion blogger here.
I’m also super thankful that my post on gratitude was featured by Alisa of Flourishing Today. She wrote about thankfulness and even made a gorgeous graphic for the feature as well. Thanks, Alisa!

What I’m Pinning: Fall Edition
There were so many amazing posts out there for the season, and I just loved looking at everyone’s homes in particular. Here’s one to pin right away–the fall home tour over at Lindsay’s Sweet World. Lindsay is a wonderful lifestyle blogger (emphasis on style), and she’s so friendly and genuine. She always has great fashion, recipes, decor, family updates, and girl chat to share with us.
But you should only check out her home tour if you like pumpkins, sunflowers, and maple leaves. 🙂 Here’s a sneak peek–just click the picture to see her home!
I’m seriously ready to invite myself over and curl up on that couch right now!
I’m on Pinterest here, if you want to see what else I’m pinning lately. I’d love to see what you’re pinning too!
Tell me what you’re loving this week. And have a happy Friday!

Your post totally got me in the Fall mood! I love it all! Now just waiting for the weather here in the Midwest to agree :). Hope you have a great weekend!
Me too, Faith! I keep checking the weather app on my phone, and it looks like the rest of the week is a bit more promising. Hooray! 🙂
Fall is the best!!! I’m always in the shoe buying mood in the fall too! The boots and booties get me every time. I just got a new pair at Target today. Happy first day of fall to me!! 😉 I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Laura, you are so sweet! Thank you so much for the feature!
And it’s funny that you said your kids thought the shoe store made for a great race track, because that happens to our kids every single time we go shoe shopping, too. It must be something about the way they have all of the aisles set up. They always go racing around like crazy!
Have a great weekend!
I think you’re on to something. Plus, they have the excuse that they have to “try out” their shoes at full speed! Hope you have a great weekend! Happy to feature you, Lindsay! 🙂
Fall is my favorite too! Would you mind sharing what Richard Scarry book that is? My son is a BIG fan and that looks right up his alley. Have a great day!
Sure! We love Richard Scarry books around here. It’s in the book “Richard Scarry’s Best Storybook Ever” which is a compilation of stories and poems. I’m not sure how it was originally published or what other books the month poems are in. They are all so great! 🙂 I’ll add a link to the book in the post.
