Hooray for Friday Favorites! It’s time once again for all of the internet to share the things that made our week just a little bit better. And to do a little victory dance. And to get the song “My Favorite Things” stuck in our heads. (Sorry.) So here are a few things I am loving lately, as I wrap up a playful kind of week with my fantastic family of four.
A Homemade Sandbox
My parents have wanted a sandbox on their farm for awhile now, and last weekend they made it happen! But instead of buying a sandbox, my dad got lumber and made it together with Ry.
Dad opted to get the sand, dump it where he wanted the sandbox, and then build the sandbox around it. I never would have thought of that! It worked beautifully. He put in boards so kiddos and grownups can sit on the edge, with a divider in the middle. The board in the middle is going to help keep the plywood cover from bowing, but it also made a perfect divider between kids so they have their own space. At this age, we all agreed, it’s important.
Just LOOK at this work of art! It’s awesome.
It’s in a perfectly shaded spot underneath some evergreens and covered in pine needles…so no mowing around it is needed!
Kai especially loved (and I mean LOVED) the sandbox, and I know he’d spend the entire day there if we’d let him. Sylvie loved it too, but didn’t quite have the same kind of passion for digging in the sand as her brother.
This was the second week in a row where we didn’t have any little trips or camps or exciting things happening for me and the kids during the weekdays. When Monday rolled around, I threw the kids in the car and went to the best playground we have in town.
You can tell it’s the best, because it has a wooden truck!
Later that night, we headed out as a family to another playground at the nearby Christian school, and we brought Kai’s stomp rocket with us. Well, it was kind of a hit. So was Kai.
Kai had a great time going on the big slides when we could tear him away from herding his younger sister. He’s noticed she’s a climber and is a bit overprotective. Do any of your kids do this with little ones?
It was a nice night!
I promise not to make my blog all about planning, but it’s definitely been a favorite this week! I just shared all about how to get started if you’re new to planning, and I also wrote about getting ready for back-to-school. I told you I was fighting the brain fog!
Here are my last three weekly layouts in my planner. I love creating my plans for the week!
I’m now selling tickets to see the Largest Apple in the World. I’m making up the road signs as we speak.
Okay, so maybe the size doesn’t look that remarkable. But the camera lies! It’s huge. It could feed our family for a week. I was surprised my son even had the strength to lift it.
I know it’s not apple season here, so I had to check the sticker and see what was going on. This is a honeycrisp from New Zealand, where it is currently winter.
I give up. It defies explanation. But oh, it was so good!
What I’m Pinning: My Favorite Pin of the Week
It’s the last month of summer. I’m exhausted by the heat, the demand to keep kids entertained, the bucket lists, day trips, and the last-minute prep for school. Summer is all kinds of fun, but it’s also draining. I feel like Fall is when I get a chance to rest. Well, a new favorite blogger of mine just reminded me to have a restful, peaceful heart even when I’m in this busy season. Go check it out!
I’m on Pinterest here, if you want to see what else I’m pinning lately. I’d love to see what you’re pinning too!
Tell me what you’re loving this week. And have a happy Friday!
