Friday Favorites: Shopping Days and Pretty Things

Hooray for Friday Favorites! I finished July out with a bang. A pink-colored, apple-scented, sale-finding kind of bang. This week all of my favorite things have to do with shopping. And hydrating. Because one does need to hydrate while hitting the mall.

Shopping (and I Don’t Mean for Groceries)

For my birthday, my parents got me a gift certificate to an outlet mall. This really meant, for a mama of young ones who lives in a tiny rural town, a girls’ day out! And it was sooooo nice!

The girls–meaning me, my mom, and my daughter Sylvie–hit the road to our favorite outlet mall last Saturday. The weather was perfect, the champagne water was flowing, and the shopping bags were getting filled up quickly.

Some of the only shopping pictures I grabbed are blurry shots of us at Carter’s. For most of the time, Sylvie was out of the stroller in the store and hugging the unicorn pajamas. She’s her mama’s girl alright.

I didn’t take enough pictures! So you’ll just have to imagine the look of glee on my face as I found great deals at lots of other stores like the Gap, G.H. Bass, and Bath and Body Works.

Speaking of Bath & Body Works, their new Fall line is in, and they are shouting it from the rooftops.

Our favorite scent was the new Champagne Apple and Honey (Apple of My Eye) in the pic above. It wasn’t available to buy at the time, but I think this scent is being sold now and they were just out of stock. At least they had a tester! We could tell it was our favorite, because we kept returning to the particular spot on our arms/wrists/hands where the apple scent was. We were walking around smelling our arms all day.

A New Purse (or, Shopping. Again.)

This was my favorite purchase:

A gray hobo bag to transition me from the realm of I Need to Carry All Baby Products at All Times into the happier place of All I Need is a Large Purse. It fits my planner, phone, wallet, and a little pack of diapers/wipes. I mean, of course, it’ll also hold random stuff too. Cheerios. Little toys. Old receipts. Gum wrappers. Lipstick. You get the picture.

I also grabbed a pair of jeans and sweaters from the Gap at ridiculously low prices. It was pretty much the most successful shopping trip ever. So bring on Fall. My kids might not be ready yet, but I am.

Contigo Cups for Kids

It turns out my 19-month-old daughter is particularly skilled at opening, closing, and drinking out of Contigo water bottles. We discovered this when she started playing around with her grandma’s and successfully drinking out of it. So when I saw them on display along with some school supplies, I decided it was time to spring for one for each kid. They are drinking more water now, and that’s always a favorite!

My Daughter’s Backpack

For the record, we’re calling it a backpack. A backpack with a strap for an adult to hold on to, which tethers the child safely out of harm’s way. That’s what we’re calling it.

So, pre-kids, I may have thrown a few questionable glances at the sight of these devices. Then I had my second child, a girl whose middle name should have been Explorer. She seems to think it’s her personal challenge in life to climb anything, run everywhere, and discover everything she possibly can. Things that are only for adults (like pens, medicine, lipstick, glasses of wine) are her FAVORITE things. Well, keeping my daughter alive while also giving her some freedom is mine. Because this girl is not a Quietly Hold My Hand and Follow My Lead Wherever We Go kind of girl.

I pulled out her brand new backpack for our trip to the outdoor mall, and I think it’s safe to say it was a success.

She loved the fact that it was a soft pink bunny, but she was mostly so proud that she could walk alongside the grown-ups. As I took this last picture, she was running into my arms for a giant hug. All I can say is, You’re welcome, Sylvie. You’re welcome.

What I’m Pinning: My Favorite Pin of the Week

This week I’m sharing something a little different. My favorite pin this week was a simple quote from recording artist Britt Nicole.

I need this reminder!

This is really the most girly part of the post today. I may love things like lip gloss, colorful sweaters, and hitting every store while smelling of champagne-honey apples, but it’s all just temporary. I’d rather have a pretty spirit than a pretty purse.

This quote from Britt stood out to me in particular because the verse I chose to focus on this week is…

You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

1 Peter 3:4

I’m on Pinterest here, if you want to see what else I’m pinning lately. I’d love to see what you’re pinning too!

Tell me what you’re loving this week. And have a happy Friday!

  1. A girls day of shopping sounds amazing! I love your bag and think you may have inspired me to do some shopping of my own! 🙂 Bath and Body Works fall sents are the best. I always load up on lotion and candles for the season. September 1st it all gets brought out! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  2. I am so stinkin’ jealous of all your shopping! The Gap buys, Bath and Body Works and that gray bag! Great job! And I totally don’t judge you on the backpack. My second is what we call a runner. He could totally use one. He’s doing better now but there for awhile, I terrified of what could happen if he ran at the wrong time and the wrong place. Better safe than sorry! Hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!

  3. I was in B&B Works the other day and it was pure heaven with all of those fall scents! They had loads of the new stuff and I loved all of them. I just got a Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow candle and it is amazing. I cannot WAIT to start burning it! I’m trying to hold out until September.
