Friday Favorites: Date Night and Iced Coffee

Hooray for Friday Favorites! It’s time once again for all of the internet to share the things that made our week just a little bit better. And to do a little victory dance. And to get the song “My Favorite Things” stuck in our heads. (Sorry.) So here are a few things I am loving lately, as I wrap up another extra nice kind of week with my fantastic family of four.

Date Night with Ry

My husband and I went on a date this week, grabbing dinner and a walk in another town while my mom stayed with the kids. If you’re like me, you probably appreciate date night as much as coffee or sleep. It was pretty amazing.

Me & Ry, ready to eat a dinner uninterrupted!

Flaming cheese appetizer that comes with a shout of “Opa!!”

We had the room to ourselves for a hot minute.

Bows in Sylvie’s Hair

Big news: Sylvie has been wearing headbands for more than 30 minutes at a time! Her hair is getting longer, and I don’t know if she noticed it stays out of her eyes this way, or if she just likes them. She does eventually pull them off, but not as quickly as she used to. Told you it was big news!

Iced Coffee at Home

So, a lot of you probably do this, but it’s a favorite of mine, so it’s on the list! Summertime means Ry and I started making our coffee at night and then putting it in the fridge for the morning. It’s a really simple way to have “iced” coffee without diluting it. It’s extra nice because our kids’ rooms are close to the kitchen, and I always worry about them hearing me make coffee before they’re awake. So when I’m up blogging while their sweet little bottoms are in bed in the morning, I just reach in the fridge and grab my coffee. Done.

Join Me Every Friday

This is your official invitation to join my email list. See?

Every Friday, I send out a simple little note along with a summary of what I’ve been sharing on the blog so you don’t miss out on anything. I do have some ideas cooking for creating an email challenge down the road, and I’ll keep you in the loop on that through my weekly emails. I promise to never send you more than what you’ve asked for (just one email a week), share your email address, or do anything crazy like that. This little form will get you all signed up!

What I’m Pinning: My Favorite Post of the Week

This week’s post comes from Denise Renae and is all about contentment first as a mom, and secondly, as a blogger. It’s called Can You Believe You’re Right Where God Wants You? This is just one of many fantastic posts Denise is sharing over on her blog. Go check it out!

I’m on Pinterest here, if you want to see what else I’m pinning lately. I’d love to see what you’re pinning too!

Tell me what you’re loving this week. And have a happy Friday!

  1. Fun! Date nights are so wonderful, aren’t they?! And how sweet is that little bow in your sweet girl’s hair? I hope your week is off to a great start!

  2. Date nights are the best!! Sometimes I feel like because we don’t have kids yet, we don’t really “deserve” date night, but at dinner tonight we had such a great time and talked all about sports/activities we did in middle and high school — a conversation we NEVER would have had if we stayed home and watched TV. So it is always worth it!

Love that iced coffee tip. I tried to make it once with the Pioneer Woman recipe and while it was good, it was so much work. I am going to try your method! Do you put cream and sugar in it still?

    1. Hi, Laura! YES, so glad you are enjoying dates together. It’s so important, kids or not. We aren’t perfect about doing it as much as we’d like, but definitely enjoy your time as a couple and don’t feel any false guilt about that! (I wrote a little about this in my post about how motherhood changed me).

On the coffee-yep, I put the sugar in right away so it dissolves, and creamer too. I just re-stir in the morning and it still tastes great! 🙂

  3. Date nights are the best and something J.D. and I need to get better at. We always say we’re going to do them, but something comes up. I also love making coffee at night and sticking it in the fridge! Or I’ll make one in the morning and stick it in there for a cold afternoon pick me up. It’s perfect!

  4. I’m a big believer in date nights and it looks like you had a fantastic one!
OK, how did I never think to make iced coffee like that?? I feel like I never have time to make coffee in the morning to bring to work with me, so this will be perfect!
