It’s Good Friday, and I have my eyes on the weekend and Easter…but this day is actually pretty great too.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
-1 Peter 2:23-25 (NIV)
I hope that you are blessed today and resting in God’s grace for you! So here are a few things that made my week a little bit brighter.
Birthday Outings + Sunshine
There’s this place called the outside world that I’ve been exploring lately with my kids, and it turns out it’s pretty awesome. Last Friday, my husband had the day off and we went downtown as a family for his birthday. We had soda fountain drinks, visited the (wonderful!) bookstore, grabbed a delicious lunch, and after heading home for naps, Ry and I took care of some yard work. It’s been so gorgeous out, and we’ve been taking advantage with some backyard fun this week. We can’t wait to watch our kiddos hunt for eggs on Sunday!
My Cookbook Stand
Until last month, I’d never owned a cookbook stand. I’d just plop my cookbook down, hold it open with “paperweights” like flour canisters if necessary, and always, always get food on the pages. (Well, it does help illustrate the ingredients.)
So I got this pretty cookbook stand from Amazon last month, and I officially feel like a grown-up cook now…and this stand is SO pretty, it’s the happiest little corner of my kitchen. I think it would make a great mother’s day gift. It’s sturdy wrought iron, and it even has elegant little weights to hold down the pages if you need them. It’s the Tripar Swirl Design Cookbook Stand, and it gets crazy good reviews and is under $20. Hooray!
MST3K, or Mystery Science Theater 3000
This is happening today, but what made my week brighter was taking a trip down memory lane and watching old episodes with Ry. Yes, we’re geeky about MST3K–a show from the 90s that features a guy (and his robot friends) watching really bad movies and making fun of them. I don’t know if I’m bragging or confessing, but I can go into Joel vs. Mike, favorite episodes, and more… Ry and I have been watching these together since our days in the dorm. Around the time I was pregnant with Kai, we’d throw one on, laugh a bit, and then fall asleep to the soothing sounds of really bad theater and snarky running commentary. Well, anyway, Netflix is rebooting this series and we’re super excited to watch tonight.
